The Food Apothecary's Iced Green Tea Latte: 2 Ways | The Divine ...

A delicious, healthy alternative to a sweet, sugary summer drink!

Ok, we get it ? it?s summer. It?s hot outside. You want to indulge in sweet, icy treats, but you want to keep your body looking fab in that bikini too. Sounds like an old dilemma. Here, we bring you an iced green tea latte, brimming with antioxidants. Because matcha powder is made from whole green tea leaves ground to a fine powder, one glass of this recipe provides the equivalent of 10 glasses of green tea in terms of nutritional value and antioxidant content. Also a cancer-fighter and a fat-burner, matcha is considered by many to be a fountain of youth.

Popular coffee shops have capitalized on this idea with their green tea lattes and, unfortunately, they?ve also capitalized on your hips, by infusing their matcha powder with sugar, and many with added syrup on top of that. Meet The Food Apothecary?s revamped and healthified version of Starbucks? green tea latte. Totally lacking in cholesterol and refined sugar. Totally lacking in guilt. Guaranteed, it will be your newest addiction.

INGREDIENTS:

(Makes 1 drink)
1 cup unsweetened almond milk (or other nondairy milk, unsweetened variety)
1 teaspoon pure matcha green tea powder (no sugar added)*
4 medjool dates, pitted (or more, depending on taste)
1 handful of ice cubes

PREPARATION:

Place almond milk, matcha powder, and dates into blender. Blend on highest setting until contents appear totally smooth.

Now, have it your way:

For the iced latte option, add ice cubes to a glass, pour green tea mixture over ice, add a straw and enjoy!

For the ?frappucino? option, add the ice to the blender, blending until fairly smooth, with no noticeable ice chunks. Pour into a glass, grab a straw, and sip your self into antioxidant heaven!

*Available at Whole Foods Market and Asian groceries. Can be a little pricey, but worth it!
